Love that double plaid.

Gabrielle looks so great wearing a skirt at her natural waist. This look comes across as more classic and less trendy than a lot of the more severe “high-waisted” looks.
We grabbed a shady seat at the Cooper-Young Farmers Market last weekend to listen to the lovely Holly Cole & the Memphis Dawls.
Cellist Jana Misener (she also plays with Giant Bear and Sultana) was fresh and cool in a long white cotton sundress. Her carved coral earrings and floral-and-feather hair fascinator caught our eye before she even took the stage.
I think we’re officially obsessed with hats. Unsurprisingly, we loved Amy’s. The fresh flowers from the market were a nice touch.
Elaina’s said her style icon is Katharine Hepburn, partly due to the fact that “She never wore dresses. She was always wearing pants.”
We love Elaina’s rich color combo here. And the way she pulls off the black frame glasses is very K. Hepburn-esque.
Burke’s Book Store celebrated their 135th (wow!) anniversary at Cooper-Young Nite Out last week with champagne, cake, and balloons.
Co-owner Cheryl was dressed classically and comfortably in jeans and a button down, with amazing, one-of-a-kind accessories, including her cool tortoise shell frames.
If it’s not clear from the whole 135 years thing, we’d just like to point out that Burke’s is a Memphis institution. A lovely, comfortable, well-staffed, book lover’s haven.
Burke’s carries new books, and specializes in rare and used books. We cannot help but be charmed by these hand-wrapped special orders. Now those are some stylish books!
Finally, we appreciate that Burke’s Books is set up for you to preview the merchandise. Every aisle has a chair for you.
HAPPY B-DAY, Burke’s! We’re hoping for at least 135 more.
MEMSTYLE reports to Skirt! Magazine every month. For our first article, in the June edition, we decided to feature ourselves.
It’s much more difficult than we expected to go in front of the camera, and we promise to have infinite patience for you when we take your picture!
Here are some of our favorite alternates and outtakes that did not make it into Skirt!:
